On Thursday, May 22, 52 men received assignments to various fields of ministry though the synod’s Assignment Committee: 41 from the class of 2008 received their first calls into the public ministry, four from the class of 2006, and seven were reassigned to their present field of labor.
“We give thanks for parents who are willing to bring up their children respecting the value of the ministry,” said President Paul Wendland, “and we are blessed with a ministerial education system that equips our young people for lives of service in the church from grade school on.”
Assignments were received as follows: 10 to our schools, five pastoral assistants to district presidents, 10 to home missions, 23 to parish ministry, one to Multi-Language Publications, and three to world mission fields.
Assignments were also received by two graduates who were trained through the Pastoral Studies Institute (PSI) and its satellite program Cristo Palabra De Vida. Directed by Professor E. Allen Sorum, the PSI guides and assists non-traditional students through their pre-seminary and seminary training.
Vicar assignments were announced during a service on the evening of Tuesday, May 20th. Of the 44 vicars placed, 21 were assigned to mission settings. .
