Convention meets on campus

Convention delegates from the Southeastern Wisconsin District (SEWD) met June 10-11 on campus. Representatives from 150 congregations gathered to elect officers and discuss the business of our Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod.

Seminary President Paul Wendland delivered the keynote address based on 2 Corinthians 3:18 under the theme “Reflecting Christ to the World.” Over 550 delegates were encouraged to reflect an unselfish love, a neighbor-centered love, and an enduring love as they were reminded that “the power of Christ’s love is unstoppable.”

Preparations for the convention were coordinated by SEWD secretary Pastor William Carter of St. Paul, Brownsville, Wisconsin. “The input and participation by both lay and called worker delegates is so very important to our synod. Each district has the opportunity to react and respond to the synod’s Ad Hoc Commission report, as well as learning about the many things our synod’s leaders, schools, and missionaries are doing in our behalf. Additionally, this year’s delegates will be present for the introduction of the WELS Year of Jubilee offering for debt reduction that will enable us to do more of the ministry our Lord has called us to do.”

Pastor Carter also thanked the staff from the administrative, business, and technology offices and the grounds crews for their work in making the convention run smoothly.
