The financial aid committee made its winter distribution in January, with grants totaling $172,950. The average award was $1,373 per student with 95% of students receiving some assistance. This represents an increase of $297 per student over last year’s winter distribution (up by 28%). This winter distribution of financial aid is the second distribution of the school year; the first one is near the start of the first semester.
It should be noted that the financial aid distributed by the WLS Scholarship Fund (including need-based scholarship grants, on-campus service award grants, and academic achievement awards) represents only a portion of what students receive. Foundations such as Siebert and Salem, other scholarship funds, and many congregations within our synod supplement what we do and deserve our thanks as well.
