Winterim travel opportunities

Twenty-seven students visited various parts of the U.S., Mexico, and Thailand as part of the Winterim curriculum in January. They experienced “Alternatives to Urban Ministry” in El Paso, TX, and Jacksonville, FL; “Spanish Immersion Cultural Experience” (SPICE) in Puebla, Mexico; gospel outreach in New Orleans, LA; and world mission work in Thailand.

In the U.S., students worked with pastors to plan and develop expanded ministry efforts. In Mexico students sharpened Spanish skills and became more acquainted with Mexican culture by attending classes at the Spanish Institute of Puebla and participating in two days of conferences with pastors and seminary students of the Confessional Evangelical Lutheran Church of Mexico. They also made trips to historical and cultural sites in Mexico.

In addition to courses taught by the faculty, seven guest presenters shared their practical expertise with students on campus. Course offerings included “Technology in the Parish,” “Ministering to the Military,” “Cultism in America,” and “Counseling those Suffering from Addictions.”
