Your seminary sits in a beautiful park-like setting on 80 acres in Mequon, Wisc., 20 minutes northwest of downtown Milwaukee. Dedicated in 1929, the central seminary building complex resembles the architecture of the Wartburg castle where Luther translated the New Testament into German. A distinctive tower and archway divide the buildings into two areas: the residence hall and the dining hall lie to the west; the administration-classroom building, the chapel, and the library to the east.
The seminary library collection contains approximately 58,000 volumes and is open to visitors. This collection supports the study and research needs of the seminary students and faculty, as well as WELS pastors, teachers, staff ministers, and members throughout the world. The library features several special collections, including the WELS World Missions Collection, and an online resource catalog.
You are also invited to visit the renovated chapel, dedicated in 2005. The award-winning design is beautiful in its simplicity with its light maple altar, dark slate floor, etched-glass windows, and black granite baptismal font.
