Chorus tour
During the mid-semester break, March 4 - 8, members of the chorus will travel south to present five concerts at WELS churches in Illinois, Ohio, and Tennessee.
The chorus plans an extended tour only every other year. The 2008 trip took the group west to Utah, Nevada, and California; the 2010 destination is Texas. In years when the chorus doesn’t tour for the entire 12-day Easter vacation, the group takes the opportunity offered by the mid-semester break to plan a shorter trip. According to Prof. James Tiefel, the choir’s director, even a shorter tour helps keep the chorus focused and gives it an important goal.
The choir will also be appearing in eight congregations in Wisconsin during March. All of the choir’s appearances enable the men to share the seminary’s message and mission with members of WELS congregations. To present the gospel in song and to represent the seminary in the synod has been the choir’s objective throughout its 78 year history.
The 2009 concert program is entitled “Alleluia” and includes Jean Berger’s Alleluia from Brazilian Psalm and J. S. Bach’s Blessing, Glory, Wisdom, and Thanks with its wonderful finale, a grand fugal alleluia. If you are unable to attend one of the earlier concerts, the chorus will also present the program on campus at its Graduation Concert on May 21 at 7:00 p.m.
