Friends of the Seminary Day
The Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary Auxiliary will host its annual Friends of the Seminary Day
on Saturday, October 1, 2011. Registration and coffee fellowship will begin at 8:00 a.m., followed by worship with the seminary chorus at 9:00 a.m., a brief business meeting, and presentations by faculty and students.
Since 1973 WLS Auxiliary has encouraged project and prayer support for the mission of Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary. Material and scholarship projects are presented to WLS Auxiliary by the seminary at the annual meeting and are funded by the gifts of congregations and individuals. Since 1973, more than $120,000 in wish-list donations has been given through WLS Auxiliary.
This year’s speakers will be Prof. Stephen Geiger and WLS senior Joel Hoff. Professor Geiger (New Testament and education) will tell us about his recent teaching stint at Asia Lutheran Seminary. He and his family spent the spring semester in Hong Kong while he taught courses in Acts and the Letters of Paul, Hebrews, Worship and Liturgics, and Church Music Ministry. In addition, he assisted students in independent studies, led English Bible studies, and preached in local congregations of the Southeast Asia Lutheran Evangelical Mission. Joel Hoff will share experiences from his year of service in Cameroon. In the summer of 2010 he accepted an emergency call to serve and equip the saints in this growing mission field. Hoff returns to campus as a senior this fall.
The WLS Auxiliary is a group of faithful Christians dedicated to supporting the mission of the seminary. All WELS members — men and women — are invited to participate. We are thankful for the continuing partnership with members of WLS Auxiliary and look forward to welcoming them back on campus again soon.
A light lunch, included in the $10.00 registration fee, will be served at 12:00 p.m. Guided tours of the campus will be available after lunch.
