Global Theological Education Conference

President Paul O. Wendland and World Missions Professor Kenneth A. Cherney represented Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary at the Global Theological Education (GTE) conference held in Leipzig, Germany, June 3-5. Also present were representatives from Bethany Lutheran Seminary in Mankato, MN, and from seminaries in Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Mexico, Peru, the Ukraine, and Zambia. Representatives from the boards for world missions of the ELS and WELS also participated.

The conference discussed how cooperation between sister churches of the Confessional Evangelical Lutheran Conference (CELC) could enhance their programs of worker training, especially as they seek to train nationals for positions of theological leadership. This August, the CELC planning committee will hear a proposal that the CELC form a standing committee, parallel to its Commission on Theology, to serve as a clearinghouse for information about resources, personnel, and methodologies that member churches could profitably share.
