Korth Memorial Scholarship Fund established
Mr. Orrin Korth of Watertown, South Dakota, has a story to tell about God’s grace and love to him.
Feeling something was amiss, Korth drove to his doctor’s office. He was put into a wheel chair and then onto an elevator when he collapsed. He was suffering a severe heart attack. After being shocked twice, he was revived and driven to the local hospital. Because of the seriousness of his condition, he was flown to a heart hospital in Sioux Falls. Korth was close to death. His family and his pastor were called to the hospital to be near him.
But God had other plans for him. After a week under sedation, Korth rallied and began to recover. He feels his guardian angel was with him every step of the way. Thankful for God’s grace and healing hand, Korth established the Korth Memorial Scholarship Fund at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in honor of his parents with a generous gift of $100,000. He plans to make more gifts to it in the future. The fund is permanently restricted, which means that only its interest can be used for scholarships.
Korth has previously established scholarship funds with other WELS schools to encourage young men and women to pursue public ministry. Now he also supports our students as they train here to become pastors. Korth, a humble child of God, wants to tell his story to share how God can work in the lives of believers. He wishes to provide an example of how others might also support the seminary’s operational or scholarship funds. We thank the Lord for moving Orrin Korth to give this gift to the seminary.
