Pigeon Creek update

Work continues on the Pigeon Creek watershed project on the north end of campus.

Demolition of the Pigeon Creek dam, originally built in 1929, took place in late October. Since then, 1,600 cubic yards of soil have been dumped and graded on the north end of the former lagoon. DNR fisheries technicians laid logs of coconut husk fiber to form the new 20-foot-wide streambed.

More soil is expected in the weeks and months to come as the DNR continues grading and replanting the “wet meadow” that will provide a spawning habitat for fish such as walleye, northern pike, and sturgeon. We are hoping the project will be completed by this fall.
