Teaching in Guntur

World Mission Seminary Professor Kenneth Cherney is in India teaching a two-week session for theological students at our sister seminary in Guntur.

Christ Evangelical Lutheran Ministries has been blessed with many men wanting to enroll in the theological training program, but logistical and manpower challenges limit the number of men who can be trained at any given time. There are presently 10 men in the third year seminary classes, 17 in the first year, and 36 in the pre-seminary.

Opportunities to study with a visiting professor are welcomed by the men who have expressed great excitement over the visit and the coming lectures.

In a country with over one billion people, the harvest in India is certainly plentiful, and the workers definitely few. Worker training continues to be a primary focus of WELS mission work there. The visiting professor program has been and continues to be a blessing to the seminary. The full-time staff can’t begin to prepare and teach all the subjects. It is, therefore, a great blessing to invite WLS and MLC professors to teach in their areas of expertise.

In cooperation with the WELS Board for World Missions, Prof. Cherney has taught courses in Nigeria, Ukraine, and Sweden since January.
