Traveling professor at Asia Lutheran Seminary

Prof. Stephen Geiger will soon be returning from Hong Kong after teaching for a semester at Asia Lutheran Seminary. In partnership with WELS world missions, WLS regularly sends professors to offer seminary training and continuing education to other church bodies in our fellowship. Prof. Ken Cherney, who serves as the world mission seminary professor, coordinates these guest teaching schedules with our sister synods around the world. In the last two years faculty members have taught in Bulgaria, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Malawi, Nigeria, Sweden, Ukraine, and Zambia.

Since arriving in January, Geiger has been teaching courses in Acts and the letters of Paul, Hebrews, worship and liturgics, and church music ministry. He also assists students with independent study, preaches in local congregations of the Southeast Asia Lutheran Evangelical Mission, and leads English Bible studies.

Life in busy Hong Kong is very different from the relative quiet of the seminary campus. Geiger tells us, “There are so many people here! One walks the streets and sees, or is literally bumping into, a mass of humanity that—for the most part—does not know their Savior. The Lord is opening up lots of doors for the witness of Christian truth. It’s a great blessing to be a part of that witness.”

Geiger, his wife, Anna, and his three children will be returning to campus next month.
