WLS Alumni fifth annual meeting
The fifth annual meeting of WLS Alumni was held on Monday, September 19, 2011, in the seminary chapel. The resounding voices of alumni from the classes of 1943 to 2011 opened the meeting, singing, “God of the Prophets.” Seminary president Prof. Paul Wendland greeted the attendees, thanking the brothers for their continued support of the mission of the seminary. “Our seminary aims to prepare men – not with a heart at rest, but with a heart restless to bring others to know the saving gospel.”
WLS Alumni president Daniel Balge chaired a brief business meeting that included such topics as: a summary of gifts received, a report and resolution on the 150th anniversary book, reports on WLS Alumni support of continuing education, and elections of officers and committees. Incumbents Dan Balge and Aaron Christie were re-elected to another term as president and treasurer, respectively. Of special interest was a presentation by Prof. Em. John Jeske on seminary life during World War II.
In addition the WLS Alumni Scholarship was awarded to middler Evan Chartrand of Manassas, Virginia. Mr. Chartrand expressed his gratitude to the gathering and asked for their prayers on his behalf as he continues his studies.
WLS Alumni includes not only all WLS graduates, but also all WELS pastors listed in the synod yearbook.
