Eastern Orthodoxy
This survey course offers an overview of the history, mind, spirit, and theology of Eastern orthodoxy. An emphasis is placed on understanding terminology, identifying major figures and key individuals, and recognizing the major differences between the East and the West. The course also gives some attention to the impact Eastern Orthodoxy is currently having in America.

Pietism and Education
This course surveys the history and impact of the movement known as Pietism particularly as it effects Christian Education. The course follows this outline: (1) Introduction and Background; (2) Philipp Jacob Spener; (3) Francke, Bengel, Zinzendorf & Arnold; (4) Pietism's Influence in America; (5) An Evaluation of Pietism's Legacy (including current issues confronting the Lutheran Church in America.

America's Homegrown Religions
America has been a fertile ground for the development of a variety of denominations, religious movements, and cults. This course surveys America's homegrown religions focussing on the historical background, development and main teachings or emphases of each. The course also explores the causes that gave rise to these various movements as well as identifying commonalities and differences among them.

History of the Synodical Conference
This course will offer an overview of the history of the Synodical Conference. Special attention will be given to its founding and dissolution, individuals who played key roles in that history, its doctrinal contributions and controversies, its mission work, and educational endeavors.

Evangelicalism Today
We will examine the history, contemporary manifestations, and impact of this important religious movement in America. We will look at the theological thrusts and emphases of American Evangelicalism and we will discuss the challenges and opportunities that this movement presents to confessional Lutheranism.
