More than Humdrum: Seeing Life as a Holy Calling
Our peoples’ lives to them may sometimes seem so ordinary. All they do is work. All they do is clean the house. All they do is drive children from one school activity to the next. Then there's our infernal "busy"-ness. To a schedule packed with appointments, sometimes even going to church seems like just one more thing on an already overlong "to-do" list. How can we recapture the wonder of occupying a world "that's full of God" as Luther used to say? How can we rediscover for our people the joy of a life that's become for us once more a high and a holy calling? That’s the object of this Pastoral Institute, which we aim to achieve by studying the Lutheran and Biblical doctrine of Vocation.
PI course: 4-8 hours
Cross-Cultural Mission in Paul
Paul, a Diaspora Jew, became Apostle to the Gentiles, a pivotal figure in God’s plan to make one new man in Christ out of both Jew and Gentile. As such Paul has a lot to teach us today not only about culture, but also about reaching out to others across our own cultural boundary lines.

Postmodern Biblical Criticism
A study of how the "enlightenment" hermeneutics familiar to us from the historical critical method has moved on to an approach that reads texts from a postmodern point of view. In the course we hope to arrive at: a basic understanding of the “Postmodern turn” in thinking; a basic understanding of what impact this has on Biblical interpretation; an increased appreciation for and understanding of a genuinely Biblical hermeneutics; an improved ability to understand how postmoderns “think.”
