Preaching That Fosters Sanctification
This is a study of the application of Law and Gospel to the practical task of preaching sanctification in our sermons. The course is presented on the basis of six theses. I. Only the preacher who correctly understands the place of sanctification in the order of salvation will be able to foster God-pleasing sanctification. II. For the preacher to foster sanctification he must know the tools the Lord has given him in his Word (Law and Gospel), the jobs they are meant to accomplish, and the order in which they are to be used. III. The new life of faith is to be proclaimed as the inevitable result of the Gospel of justification/forgiveness of sins in Christ working in the heart of the believer. IV. Acts of sanctification are to be called for, invited and encouraged, not demanded as works of the Law. V. Although the new man needs no external guide to sanctified living, the Christian needs the Law (3rd use) as a guide to the eternal, immutable will of God because sin still clings to him. VI. Although sanctification reveals itself in outward deeds, it should never be presented as mere outward acts, but as deeds of the new life that flow from a heart of faith. Actually working with texts on sanctification can also be included in the course.

Preaching Christ From the OT
This course is built on the hermeneutical principle stated by Jesus, "These are the Scriptures that testify about me" (John 5:39). It is valid, therefore, to find Christ in any Old Testament text. The course looks at preaching Christ from narrative texts, and texts that contains types or prophecies, both direct and indirect. Different homiletical approaches to Old Testament preaching are also discussed.
