Website Features

On January 19th, 2006, Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary launched a new website and information portal system. The site seeks to provide a central location for both the general public and the campus family to find and share information pertaining to the Seminary.

Public Website Features

These are items of interest that serve the general public.

  • Student Directory
You can search for a current student (even faculty and staff) pictures and email address. Members of the campus family can also view student phone numbers and addresses, just like they would find in the paper directory. To use the directory, click the "directory" link in the upper left corner of the website.
  • Event Calendar
A full-featured event calendar is now available. The calendar view can be changed to several different formats, including monthly, weekly, daily, list, and table view. Users can also display events from individual categories only. A list of ten upcoming events appears at the bottom of every page. For logged-in members of the campus family, non-public events are available on the calendar as well. To view the calendar, click the "calendar" link the upper left corner of the website.
  • Audio Podcasts
Immediately available are lectures on Revelation by Dr. Siegbert Becker. A new segment will be posted every Friday. Also available is a daily chapel podcast. All podcasts include an RSS feed so that you can subscribe to the content and have it automatically delivered to your favorite podcasting client. Our podcasts will soon appear in the iTunes store as well. To learn more about a podcast, click its name in the podcast box at the bottom of the page. You can also read more about podcasts on our website.
  • File Downloads
The website provides several opportunities to download documents and files. Whether it is an application form for an upcoming education opportunity, a symposium paper, or the end-of-year assignment list, the Seminary website is your only stop for the latest information from campus.
  • News + Notes
Regular campus news updates are now posted to the website. To see the latest news from the Seminary, just check at the bottom of the homepage for the latest 10 items. You can also browse a full list of news, or check news that matches a specific category.
  • Site Search
Our site search provides a powerful way to find content. There is also an advanced search feature which lets you drill down to the section of the website, or the type of content that you are looking for.
  • Static Content
Of course, we also have the static, catalog-style content that visitors look for on a regular basis. Virtually everything from the print catalog is located here on the website in various categories and sections.

Information Portal Features

These are features that are limited to students, faculty, and staff at the Seminary. They provide tools for information management on campus.

  • Campus Marketplace
A listing of various items for sale, trade, or donation is maintained on the website. Members of the campus family are able to post items to the list and respond with inquiries about posted items. A listing of available jobs is also kept online for the benefit of students and their wives. In the spring and summer months when housing is a hot topic, listings of available housing in the area will be maintained.
  • Campus Announcements
The website supports the ability to provide private campus news. Since many announcements are irrelevant or superfluous for the general public, such items can be limited to the campus family.
  • Website Help Handbook
Available for logged-in users is a website help handbook with information about using the various portal features of the site. You can access this handbook by clicking "Web Help" next to the user information and logout link that appears that the top right of every page.
  • Campus Info Pages
A growing collection of information and handbook pages are available to the student body. We plan to import the entire student handbook to a digital format over the course of the upcoming months.
  • Preaching Date System
The "preaching binder" on campus has been digitized. Students can now browse available preaching dates and sign up for them online. A preaching coordinator maintains the listings and makes sure that the index stays up to date.
