On September 18 and 19, and October 3 and 4, mentors serving in the Pastor Partners Mentoring Initiative gathered on campus for training sessions. Over 90% of the 65 active Pastor Partner mentors participated in this year’s events. Mentor training sessions have become an annual event for those who serve in the mentoring program, and the specific topics and presentations vary from year to year with this year’s topic being “Planning for Growth.” For the few that were unable to attend in person, sessions were recorded and are available on Seminary Online.
Primary presenters this year included Professor Rich Gurgel from WLS; Pastor Jeremiah Gumm from Liverpool, NY; Pastor Ben Zahn from Myrtle Beach, SC; and Thad Jahns, Director, Career & Professional Development at Wisconsin Lutheran College. Fan God’s Gifts into Flame, Keys to an Effective Mentoring Relationship, Understanding the Year by Year Mentoring Progression, and Rationale/Resources for Mentor Leadership Team Connecting with Mentors were titles of presentations and indicate the kind of topics presented and discussed. Breakout Groups and helpful Q & A segments enriched the discussions and will hopefully continue to be of value to the mentors who serve in this relatively new but highly regarded emphasis among us. We invite your ongoing prayers for the Pastor Partner program and all the participating mentors who serve.
