Professor Samuel Degner was installed Professor of Evangelism & New Testament at the opening worship service on Monday, Aug. 28.
A 2005 graduate, he served at Bethel, Menasha, Wis. While there, “cross-cultural outreach—particularly to Hispanics—was a passion of mine and a major focus. I’m sure that will flavor my teaching,” he says. Also during his pastoral ministry, “I grew in my appreciation for the varied gifts God gives his people and how they can use them where God puts them.”
Now he is looking forward to equipping the equippers. “I loved serving in the parish and I want to help guys see how much fun they’ll have doing pastoral gospel ministry,” he says. “I’m hoping to help them better understand and appreciate their God-given strengths, and consider how they can utilize their gifts—and the gifts of their people—in the ministry, especially in evangelism.”
Even though he is a teacher, he also is looking forward to being a student. “I’m excited to learn more from my new colleagues here on the hill,” he shares.
Professor Degner and his wife, Mandy, have three children Evelyn (5th grade), Ana (3rd grade), and William (1st grade) who love exploring their new 80-acre home.
